SATURDAY, JUNE 21: A riotous evening of stand-up comedy at The Forward Club, Breese Stevens Field's flamingo-themed soccer club bar and performance space!
With stand-up performances by all-queer cast of comedians headlined by Gwen La Roka:
Gwen La Roka is without a doubt a rising star of stand-up. She hit the comedy scene with an explosive energy that quickly won the hearts of her audiences and led to performances at world famous comedy clubs such as The Laugh Factory, Zanies, and The Improv.
Her honest comedic approach, meshed with her physical humor, has crowds from all ages and backgrounds laughing at life, together. Gwen has worked with some of today's funniest comedians like Gina Yashere, Felipe Esparza, Aida Rodriguez, & Finesse Mitchell, as well as legendary Paul Rodriguez & George Wallace.
Gwen has written and directed her own one woman show titled Mi Casa Es Tu Casa, which sold out the entire 13-show run debut in Chicago just last year. She also recently had some fun as a voiceover actor for a Viva Films role in "Around the World in 80 Days".
Winner of the '21 NY Latino Film Festival Latino Stand Up Comedy Competition, she is now the first Latina from Chicago to make her comedy special debut on HBO Max. Catch her now on "Entre Nos: The Winners 3"

Words with Nerds is produced by Best of Madison-winner Cheshire Cat Comedy and began in 2022 as a monthly event on the third Thursday of every month at Crucible, Madison’s premier alternative arts club. The showcase has since blossomed into a featured showcase at locations such as The Forward Club at Breese Stevens Field; Comedy Cabin in Janesville, WI; and The Lincoln Lodge in Chicago, IL. Presenters span entrepreneurs, educators, researchers, activists, union organizers, surgeons, engineers, and stand-up comedians with an itch to nerd out on stage.
Every now and then, Words with Nerds adds in a little splash of something extra; past examples include Rick Sanchez of Rick and Morty performing a burlesque number and Batman doing stand-up comedy.

Korean-American comedian and producer Josh Glen cooks up a custom cocktail of comics at Breese Stevens Field's flamingo-themed Forward Club bar space. Instead of the mustard, mayonnaise, and marmalade often found in stand-up comedy showcases, Kimchi Fried Comedy features hearty helpings of chocolate, chutney, and chorizo.
With headliner CHASTITY WASHINGTON:
Chastity Washington’s career spans more than twenty-five years. Her unparalleled dynamism and humor have taken her to colleges and clubs across the country. She is an NBC Diversity finalist and an HBO Comedy Wings winner. She has been seen on BET, the Just for Laughs Festival, and Martha’s Vineyard Comedy Fest. Chastity is also a regular at the Laugh Factory and Comedians You Should Know, as well as a headliner at Zanies Chicago. She has opened for Tommy Davidson, David Mann, Charlie Berens, and Roy Wood Jr.

With headliner JOE FERNANDEZ:
Joe Fernandez is a half-Cuban half-Irish (or Cubish) comedian and actor. Described as cerebral, sardonic, and flat out bizarre, Joe combines low-brow, off-color humor with high-brow references to satirize serious subjects. Joe has morphed smart and stupid into his own unique brand of silly--but layered--comedy. He’s taken his offstage persona of intolerable presence and morphed it into his on-stage persona of lovable jerk and is facetious to a fault.
Joe has performed in numerous comedy festivals such as Chicago TBS Just For Laughs Fest, the Boston Comedy Fest, the Memphis Comedy fest, and Chicago Sketchfest. He was a finalist for the Andy Kaufman Award. Joe is a regular at many Chicago comedy institutions, including Zanies, Laugh Factory, Comedians You Should Know, and Paper Machete. He’s opened for some of the biggest names in comedy like Dave Attell, Jon Lovitz, Natasha Leggero, and Harland Williams. His debut comedy album, "Ugly", opened at #1 on iTunes.

A former international street performer turned emcee, Sonal Aggarwal has brought her talents to Chicago as an actor, comedian, producer, and movement artist. She is a regular host of the Moth Story Hour, a regular at Laugh Factory: Chicago, and has been featured on the prestigious "Comedians You Should Know" showcase. Sonal's one-woman show, The Alchemy of Bliss, played for a sold-out weekend at the Steppenwolf Theater and her longtime hit show, Karaoke Storytellers, has been spotlit on Daytime Chicago. You can see her on Netflix’s Easy as well as the 2020 SXSW debuting short A Period Piece.

Josh Glen, the producer of "Kimchi Fried Comedy", cooks up a custom cocktail of comics for Black History Month celebrating Blackness, laughter, and damn good time.
With headliner MARCUS BANKS:
Marcus Banks is a stand up comedian, writer, and producer born and based in Chicago, Illinois. After attending boarding school in Northern California as a teen, film school in Boston, then running out of couches to hop on in Los Angeles, Marcus has come back to Chicago to tell everyone all about what it’s like to be a human boomerang. Since then, he’s wowed audiences with his insightful jokes and ability to find the silliest aspects of the most serious subjects. Marcus has performed at clubs and festivals all over the country including Zanies, Laugh Factory, Lincoln Lodge, Detroit House of Comedy, Limestone Comedy Festival and Laughing Skull Festival. He’s also the co-founder and co-producer of the all Black collective and comedy variety show ‘My Best Friend is Black’ in Chicago.

Join us on Friday, December 27 for a special New Year's Edition of Words with Nerds, a great show for information sponges who love to laugh.
Words with Nerds mixes TED Talks with stand-up by bringing together local specialists and comedians to present on a topic of their choice. Come for the laughs and walk away with strange new knowledge – performers at the show have regaled audiences with presentations about dinosaur rib anatomy, a principal component analysis of the Taco Bell Menu, nipple equality activism in Madison, how people misuse statistics, what can be learned from watching 100 Hallmark movies, how to perform self-surgery, and much, much more.

Words with Nerds is produced by Best of Madison-winner Cheshire Cat Comedy and began in 2022 as a monthly event on the third Thursday of every month at Crucible, Madison’s premier alternative arts club. The showcase has since blossomed into a featured showcase at locations such as The Forward Club at Breese Stevens Field; Comedy Cabin in Janesville, WI; and The Lincoln Lodge in Chicago, IL. Presenters span entrepreneurs, educators, researchers, activists, union organizers, surgeons, engineers, and stand-up comedians with an itch to nerd out on stage.
Every now and then, Words with Nerds adds in a little splash of something extra; past examples include Rick Sanchez of Rick and Morty performing a burlesque number and Batman doing stand-up comedy.
Parties interested in presenting at Words with Nerds are invited to send their pitches to cheshirecatcomedyco@gmail.com.

Brandon Wein - "Living with ADH– Oooooh, Shiny!"
Kristin Lytie - "What Your Favorite Horror Villain Says about You"
Kristin Lytie is a stand-up comedian living in Green Bay, Wisconsin. She cut her teeth in the Chicago comedy scene and was named a “Comic to See” by the Chicago Tribune and "Comic of the Week" on the popular podcast, The Jackie and Laurie show. Kristin has opened for Eddie Pepitone, Bobcat Goldthwait, Kyle Kinane, and Laurie Kilmartin in addition to being a featured performer in the Altercation Comedy Festival (Austin, TX), Limestone Comedy Festival (Bloomington, IN), Milwaukee Comedy Festival, and many more. She recently recorded her first album, "Disassociation Vacation", live at Altercation Festival with Burn this Records out of Los Angeles. It debuted at #1 on iTunes and Amazon in April of 2024.
Kristin also hosts Bloody Mary, a podcast about horror movies. Guests range from comics to professors to organizers--all talking about their favorite horror movies!
